NZQA Expiring unit standard 27874 version 2 Page 1 of 4 Title Demonstrate introductory skills to repair and/or overhaul aircraft wheel assemblies Level 3 Credits 4 Purpose People credited with this unit standard are able to, under supervision: prepare to repair and/or overhaul aircraft wheel assemblies; locate defects in wheel assemblies; repair and/or overhaul wheel assemblies; and complete the repair and/or overhaul of wheel assemblies. Enterprise procedures referred to in this unit standard are the applicable procedures found in the following: enterprise exposition; manufacturer publications; Government and local body legislation; airworthiness authority requirements. 2 Repair and/or overhaul activities are those usually carried out in a specialist bay or workshop. 3 Range wheels, tyres. 4 The scope of the system that this unit standard relates to is described in ATA iSpec 2200, chapter 32. 5 This unit standard may be assessed against either on or off job in a real or simulated aeronautical engineering environment. 6 The supervision requirement is additional to normal supervisory requirements of the aviation industry, to enable the graduate to operate safely until they meet full workplace competency. Range confirm fault, repair, overhaul, modify. 1.2 Assembly identity is confirmed with documentation. 1.3 Work area is prepared, and resources obtained and checked for serviceability or status in accordance with enterprise procedures. Range 1.4 Assembly is prepared for repair and/or overhaul in accordance with enterprise procedures. Range 1.5 publications, tools, equipment, safety equipment, materials, environmental conditions established. clean, inspect, assess economics of carrying out repair and/or overhaul. Next task is determined and documented in accordance with enterprise procedures. Range locate defects, repair and/or overhaul, test, adjust, complete the task. Outcome 2 Locate defects in wheel assemblies under supervision. Evidence requirements 2.1 Defects are located using troubleshooting techniques appropriate to the defect indications in accordance with enterprise procedures. 2.2 Defects found during troubleshooting are reported and documented in accordance with enterprise procedures. Outcome 3 Repair and/or overhaul wheel assemblies under supervision. Evidence requirements 3.1 Assembly is disassembled in accordance with enterprise procedures. Range 3.2 clean, label, preserve, segregate, store. Defects found during disassembly are reported and recorded in accordance with enterprise procedures. Range may include but is not limited to – repair and/or overhaul, replace, modify, adjust. 3.6 Assembly is assembled in accordance with enterprise procedures. 3.7 Inspections are obtained in accordance with enterprise procedures. Outcome 4 Complete the repair and/or overhaul of wheel assemblies under supervision. Evidence requirements 4.1 Assembly is prepared for use, storage, or transit in accordance with enterprise procedures. Range 4.2 Resources are checked for serviceability and returned to service or storage in accordance with enterprise procedures. Range 4.3 serviceable, unserviceable, surplus, waste, scrap, hazardous.
