Purpose This unit standard is for building officials who are required to complete routine inspections for drainlaying, plumbing, and water supply, in multiresidential, commercial, and industrial situations.
People credited with this unit standard are able to conduct routine commercial drainlaying, plumbing, and water supply systems inspections.

2 Definition
Organisational requirements refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace.
Element 1
Conduct routine commercial drainlaying inspections.
Performance criteria
1.1 Consistency between the consent plan and drainlaying installed on-site is determined in terms of pipe sizes, materials, drain supports, protections, method of construction, invert levels, gradients, measurements, and bedding.
1.2 The nominated test(s) are checked to determine whether they meet the Building
Code requirements.
1.3 Local conditions and restrictions that apply to the installation are identified in terms of their impact on the inspection process.
1.4 Decisions to make amendments to the consent are applied according to
Territorial Authority regulations and organisational requirements.
1.5 On-site waste disposal systems are checked for compliance with the Building
Code.
1.6 As-built construction is recorded and certified to meet organisational requirements.
1.7 The inspection is completed within a timeframe appropriate to the complexity of the specific inspection as determined by the legislative requirements.

Compliance actions that are identified from the inspection are documented, reported, and actioned to meet legislative requirements.

Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.

Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
