Purpose
The National Certificate in Concrete Core Skills (Level 2) [Ref: 1452] is designed for
people wishing to work in the concrete industry. It also provides a means of recognising
current competence for those already working in the industry.
The compulsory section and Elective A recognise the core skills and knowledge required
by industry for concrete workers, including use of tools, concrete production, concrete
testing, health and safety, environmental practices, problem solving, and a broad overview
of the requirements of concrete industry work. Elective B offers the choice of a range of
core skills relevant to the concrete industry, such as first aid, time management,
communication, and driving of forklifts, which can be tailored to each candidate’s individual
needs.
The qualification provides underpinning knowledge and skills important to the performance
of individuals in all sectors of the concrete industry. It also provides people with the
necessary skills and knowledge for entry into any of the specialised trade-level
qualifications from the Concrete subfield at Level 3 or above.
Special Notes
Standards 24879, 24880, 24881, 24882, and 24883, or the demonstration of equivalent
knowledge and skills, are prerequisites for entry to all qualifications from the Concrete
subfield at Level 3 or above.
Persons seeking credit for unit standard 18496 to obtain an F (forklift) driver licence
endorsement must hold a current full class driver licence other than Class 6.

Requirements for Award of Qualification
Award of NZQF National Qualifications
Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.
Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the
purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided on the New Zealand Qualifications
Authority (NZQA) website: http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/qualifications-standards/standards/standards-exclusionlist/.
Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions
and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet
qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.
