Purpose
The National Certificate in Print Industry Management (Level 5) [Ref: 1376] is an
intermediate qualification developed for administration and management within the print
industry. The structure of the qualification is flexible in content as it recognises the wide
range of skills within the industry at this level.
The qualification is made up of compulsory standards and two elective sections.
The compulsory section contains a standard that enables candidates to demonstrate
knowledge of, and carry out research and report on the printing industry.
The elective sections recognise the wide range of specialisation within the industry and
provide flexibility by offering choices from a variety of classifications from the Directory of
Assessment Standards. Elective 1 focuses on fibreboard packaging and printing
standards, whereas elective 2 allows candidates to select a range of standards from the
Business, Education, Humanities, Manufacturing, and Service Sector fields.
This qualification is open entry to allow for people coming from diverse backgrounds.
The structure of the qualification recognises that people may have experience in several
different backgrounds. Some will have learned technical skills and achieved related
qualifications. Others may have completed the National Certificate in Print Industry
Management (Level 4) [Ref: 0912].
People may go on to complete the National Diploma in Print Industry Management
(Level 5) [Ref: 1377].

Requirements for Award of Qualification
Award of NZQF National Qualifications
Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.
Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the
purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided on the New Zealand Qualifications
Authority (NZQA) website: http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/qualifications-standards/standards/standards-exclusionlist/.
Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions
and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet
qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.

Version 2
Version 2 was issued following revision to make the qualification more achievable. The
credit value of Elective 1 was increased by 5.
Changes to structure and content
 Standard 2281 was removed from the compulsory section.
 Credit requirements for Elective 1 were increased by 5 credits.
 Set 1 was removed from Elective 2.
 Elective 2 was widened to include credits from anywhere in the Business field.
 Communications Skills and Fibreboard Packaging subfields were added to Elective 2.
 Total credit requirements reduced from 62 to 60.

All new trainees will be enrolled in training programmes leading to version 2 of the
qualification. People currently enrolled in training programmes leading to version 1 may
either complete that version, or transfer to version 2.

Certification
This certificate will display the logos of the NZQA, the Communications and Media Industry
Training Organisation and the organisation that has been granted consent to assess
against standards that meet the requirements of the qualification (accredited).

of Assessment Standards (DAS) and the New Zealand Standard Classification of

Quality Management Systems
Providers and Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess by a recognised Quality
Assurance Body before they can register credits from assessment against standards. Accredited providers
and Industry Training Organisations assessing against standards must engage with the moderation system
that applies to those standards. Accreditation requirements and the moderation system are outlined in the
associated Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP) for each standard.
