People working towards this qualification may complete the requirements of the qualification or transfer their results to the replacement New Zealand qualification. The last date for enrolment into this reviewed qualification is 31 December 2017. Reverse transition Version 3 of this qualification contains a standard that will expire at the end of December 2018. People wishing to complete this version of the reviewed qualification will need to gain credit for standard 18434 before it expires on 31 December 2018. People who do not gain credit for standard 18434 by this date but who wish to complete this version can use the specified reverse transition– see table below. All standards listed are required. The qualification covers skills and knowledge in the following areas: fire protection principles and industry knowledge; engineering measurement; fire sprinkler system installation or testing; first aid, resuscitation and safe working practices; trade mathematics; customer service; communications and report writing. The qualification can typically be achieved in the course of a three or four year traineeship or apprentice programme. It leads to the National Diploma in Fire Protection Systems Technology (Certification of Fire Safety Systems) (Level 5) [Ref: 0867] and the National Certificate in Fixed Fire Protection Systems (Level 5) [Ref: 0865]. Version 3 was issued following a review by the Qualifications Advisory Group in February 2007 within the guidelines provided by the Sector Advisory Group. Changes to structure and content included: titles, levels, and credits of reviewed standards updated; credit total changed from 188 credits to 174; standard 2824 replaced by 21911 and 21912; standards 9370 and 9371 replaced by 23587; standards 56, 58, 1279, 1312, 1979, 3488, 3490, 3491, 3501, 7123, 8489, 9362, 9366-9368, 9377, 10790, 10791, 12349, removed from the qualification; standards 57, 3492 and 9372 retained from the Elective section; Core Elective and the Testing strand elective sections removed, making all standards compulsory; and standards 497, 9375, 15848, 17734 and 23588 introduced to the qualification. This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards – see table below.
