Some of these people may be or may have been youth leaders who wish to become youth workers, and who are contributing to the implementation of youth programmes and projects under professional and managerial supervision. People awarded this qualification are able to establish and maintain relationships with young people within a framework of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, ethics, and relevant legislation. They can participate in teams and groups in youth work settings with a focus on the development and safety of young people. Their work is informed by knowledge of alcohol and drug issues, human development, health, law, leadership, and safety management. This is the base qualification for youth workers. It leads on to the National Diploma in Youth Work (Level 6) [Ref: 0670], which is the national qualification for professional youth work. Some of the standards included in this qualification are also in the National Diploma. Special Notes It is recommended that people participating in a programme that leads to award of the National Certificate in Youth Work (Level 4) hold a current First Aid Certificate. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. It is not intended that anyone be disadvantaged by this revision, and the above arrangements have been designed for a smooth transition. However, anyone who feels they have been disadvantaged may appeal to the address below. All versions of the qualification will be recognised by Community Support Services ITO Limited (Careerforce). Version 3 was revised following difficulties experienced by some providers in assessing against standard 7016. The standard was deleted from the qualification. Version 2 was issued following review of Core Health standards, and the renaming of the Business and Financial Services field to Business. Certification The certificate will display the logos of NZQA, Community Support Services ITO Limited (Careerforce) and the accredited organisation. Classification This qualification is classified according to the NQF classification system and the New Zealand Standard Classification of Education (NZSCED) system as specified below.
