People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of surface piercing drive units, and surface piercing drive unit servicing requirements. Performance criteria 1.1 Drive components and their location are identified in accordance with service information. Range 1.2 Operation of a surface piercing drive unit is described in accordance with service information. Range 1.3 input shaft, transom mounting, double acting universal joint assembly, torque tube, propeller shaft, rudder, propeller. steering, shallow water operation, use in aerated and ventilated water, use of large diameter propellers. Surface piercing drive unit transom mounting requirements are described in accordance with service information. Element 2 Demonstrate knowledge of surface piercing drive unit servicing requirements. Performance criteria 2.1 Routine maintenance procedures are identified from the manufacturer maintenance schedules. Range 2.2 Visual inspection procedures are identified in accordance with service information. Range 2.3 lubrication, sealing, adjustment. damage, mounting, condition of rubber boot and propeller, operation of drive. Repair procedures are identified in accordance with service information. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
