This unit standard is for people who wish to improve their
employment practices, or who are moving towards a position of
responsibility for staff management.
People credited with this unit standard are able to develop a
plan for recruitment and selection of a staff member for a
workplace and describe the staff recruitment and selection
process for a specified workplace.

Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Develop a plan for the recruitment and selection of a staff member for a workplace.
Evidence requirements
1.1
The requirement for the position is evaluated in relation to the overall workplace
business plan.
1.2
The recruitment and selection plan specifies criteria for the position, and
identifies timeframes that meet the objectives of the workplace.
Range
1.3
selection criteria includes but is not limited to – skills, experience,
attributes.
The use of external recruitment agencies or personnel is described in terms of
the services provided and associated costs.

1.4
The purpose of position descriptions, person specifications, and selection
criteria is described in accordance with identified needs.
1.5
The process for identification and evaluation of internal staff who meet the
selection criteria is described in terms of their suitability for the position and in
accordance with the recruitment and selection plan.

Evidence requirements
2.1
The recruitment process is described in relation to the recruitment and selection
plan developed as part of element 1.
2.2
The recruitment process is described in terms of the identification of suitable
candidates for the position.

within the local region, outside the local region, within the existing
business, seasonal workers, part-time workers, career change
workers.
2.3
Recruitment media are described in terms of their appropriateness and cost
effectiveness for the position to be filled.
2.4
Considerations during the recruitment process are described in terms of equal
employment opportunities.
Range
culture, sex, age, employment status, sexual orientation, marital or
family status, religion, ethical beliefs, disability;
evidence is required for at least four considerations.
Outcome 3
Describe the staff selection process for a workplace.
Evidence requirements
3.1
The procedures for screening, short-listing, and interviewing candidates are
described in terms of workplace and equal employment opportunity
requirements.
Range
screening includes but is not limited to – phone conversations with
candidates;
review of – applications, curriculum vitae, references, referee
feedback;
evidence is required for at least two methods of screening.

3.2
The notification of successful and unsuccessful candidates is described in terms
of workplace procedures and legislative requirements.
3.3
Documentation relating to the selection and employment of staff is described in
terms of workplace and legislative requirements.
