Explanatory notes
1
The following apply to the performance of all outcomes of this unit standard:
a All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented
worksite health and safety and environmental procedures (where these exceed
code) for personal, product, and worksite health and safety, and must meet the
obligations required under current legislation, including the Health and Safety in
Employment Act 1992, the Resource Management Act 1991, and their
subsequent amendments.
b All work practices must meet documented worksite operating procedures. This
includes the recording (by electronic or non-electronic means) of activities,
events, and decisions.
c All evidence of communications gathered in relation to this unit standard must be
in accordance with worksite procedures for content, recipient, timing, and method.

Definition
Worksite policies and procedures refer to documented policies and to documented or
other directions provided to staff. These include, but are not limited to, ways of
managing health and safety, environmental considerations, quality, and production,
and must conform to legislation. Examples include standard operating procedures,
company health and safety plans, on-site briefings, and supervisor’s instructions.

Evidence requirements
1.1
Isolation process is followed in accordance with legislative requirements and
worksite policies and procedures.
1.2
Components are removed from finger-jointer, without damage to the fingerjointer and without damage to the components.
1.3
Cutterheads, trim saws (if fitted) and scoring saws (if fitted) are selected for the
job requirements, visually checked for damage, fitted and adjusted in
accordance with worksite policies and procedures.
1.4
Glue system is re-assembled in accordance with worksite policies and
procedures.
1.5
Glue type and quantity are selected in accordance with worksite policies and
procedures.
1.6
Components are fitted and adjusted to suit dimensions of shook to be fingerjointed in accordance with worksite policies and procedures.

1.7

fences, transfer (cross-over) belt (if applicable).
Feedstock alignment is squared up, monitored and adjusted in accordance with
worksite policies and procedures.

Set up crower and out-feed.

Crower is set for the required shook dimension.
2.2
Out-feed is set up for required dimension and length of blanks.
2.3
Press is set up and pressure requirements are set in accordance with product
type and worksite policies and procedures.
Outcome 3
Check dry joints and adjust shaper.

Finger length and match are checked against worksite policies and procedures.
