People credited with this unit standard are able to: prepare to remove, refit and test electrical and electronic components to facilitate automotive reglazing; remove electrical and electronic components to facilitate automotive reglazing; refit and test electrical and electronic components following automotive reglazing; and clean work areas and maintain equipment. Classification Glass and Glazing > Automotive Reglazing Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definitions Worksite requirements – refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace. These requirements include – company specifications and procedures, work instructions, manufacturer’s specifications, product quality specifications, legislative requirements. Manufacturer’s specifications – refer to industry requirements that relate to the products being supplied or used or to electrical and electronic components affected by automotive reglazing. Materials and equipment – refer to industry approved materials and equipment that are recognised within the industry as being the most suited to complete the task in a professional and competent manner with due regard to safe working practices. Personal protective equipment – refers to equipment designed for the protection of eyes, hands, feet, and hair. Electrical and electronic components may include – demisters, aerials, rain sensors, light sensor, central locking, heated front windscreens, electric windows, door locks. 2 Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes – Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992; Resource Management Act 1991; Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Repair 1998 (Rule 34001), available at http://www.nzta.govt.nz/. 3 Range Evidence is required of a minimum of three refits of three different electrical or electronic components following automotive reglazing. Evidence requirements 1.1 Job requirements are determined from the job specifications in terms of electrical and electronic components to be removed. 1.2 Vehicle preparation requirements are determined in accordance with the job requirements. 1.3 Health and safety requirements are identified in terms of personal protective equipment, materials and equipment requirements. 1.4 Materials and equipment required for the removal, refit and test are selected in accordance with worksite requirements. 1.5 Correct operation of the components to be removed is checked against vehicle specifications, customer use requirements and worksite requirements, and reported if defective. Outcome 2 Remove electrical and electronic components to facilitate automotive reglazing. Evidence requirements 2.1 Removal of electrical and electronic components is completed without causing damage to materials, equipment or vehicle or injury to personnel. 2.2 Electrical and electronic components are removed in accordance with worksite requirements. Outcome 3 Refit and test electrical and electronic components following automotive reglazing. Evidence requirements 3.1 Electrical and electronic components specifications are checked against worksite requirements. 3.2 Electrical and electronic components are refitted in accordance with worksite requirements. 3.3 Electrical and electronic components are tested through their full range of operations in accordance with worksite requirements. Outcome 4 Clean work areas and maintain equipment. Evidence requirements 4.1 Re-useable materials are identified and stored in accordance with worksite requirements. 4.2 Waste and scrap materials are removed from the work area and disposed of in accordance with worksite requirements. 4.3 Work area is cleaned and inspected and left in a safe and serviceable condition in accordance with worksite requirements. 4.4 Equipment is maintained in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications and worksite requirements. 4.5 Work area is maintained in a safe and serviceable condition in accordance with worksite requirements.
