Purpose
This unit standard is intended for people who are members of the New
Zealand Cadet Forces. People credited with this unit standard are able to
describe drill theory, and demonstrate drill movements in a unit parade.

Definitions
ATC is the Air Training Corps of NZCF;
NZA is the New Zealand Army;
NZCC is the New Zealand Cadet Corps of NZCF;
NZCF is the New Zealand Cadet Forces;
RNZN is the Royal New Zealand Navy;
RNZAF is the Royal New Zealand Air Force;
SCC is the Sea Cadet Corps of NZCF.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Describe drill theory.
Performance criteria
1.1
The description explains drill ethos.
Range
1.2
purpose, structure of the ‘Words of Command’.
The description identifies personal qualities for delivering effective drill.
Range
personal qualities include but are not limited to – patience,
enthusiasm, consistency.
Element 2
Demonstrate drill movements in a unit parade.
Range
at least three parades;
drill movements must comply with the service drill manual drill movements from
NZAP818, NZP6 or BR1834/NZ Supplementary.
Performance criteria
2.1
Parade ground entry movements and positioning are demonstrated in
accordance with drill manual.
Range
forming up, rear ranks up, at rest, attention, standing at ease,
standing easy, side pacing, forward pacing, backward pacing.
2.2
Dressing as a member of a squad is demonstrated in accordance with drill
manual.
2.3
Movements at the halt are demonstrated in accordance with drill manual.
Range
left turn, right turn, about turn, inclines, dismiss.

2.4
Marching skills are demonstrated in accordance with drill manual.
Range
marching, halting, wheeling in quick time, turning on the march,
marching in slow time.
2.5
Paying of compliments is demonstrated in accordance with drill manual.
2.6
Open and close order march is demonstrated in accordance with drill manual.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
