People credited with this unit standard are able to: – enhance their personal, professional, and technical knowledge in the telecommunications industry; and – demonstrate knowledge of emerging or converging technologies relevant to complex or non-standard telecommunications network technologies. Converging Technology – any existing technologies that are integrated to provide a new service including convergence of any previously separately existing technologies that now share resources and interact with each other. Emerging technology – any technology which is at the development stage, or in early stages of production and commercial use overseas, but is not yet used commercially in New Zealand. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Enhance personal, professional, and technical knowledge in the telecommunications industry. Evidence requirement 1.1 Demonstrate that personal, professional, and technical knowledge relevant to work is current, accurate, complete, and can be recalled as necessary. 1.2 Identify and take opportunities to enhance personal professional and technical knowledge. Range may include but is not limited to – conferences, trades shows, internal and external training courses, meetings, books, brochures, manuals, surveys. Evidence of three is required. 1.3 Demonstrate that three personal networks are established with stakeholders and that non-commercially sensitive professional and technical information is exchanged to enhance personal and business performance. 1.4 Document and file professional and technical information in a manner that is readily accessible. Outcome 2 Demonstrate knowledge of two emerging or converging technologies relevant to complex or non-standard telecommunications network technologies. Range selected technologies should be those that are likely to be applied in the New Zealand environment. Evidence requirements 2.1 Describe emerging or converging technologies that may impact on existing telecommunications networks with reference to purpose, facilities offered, and how the technologies will impact on and/or integrate with existing network technology facilities and or services. 2.2 Explain how the emerging or converging technologies could improve business efficiencies and provide a potential competitive business advantage.
