People credited with this unit standard are able to: describe inventory management techniques in a postharvest operation, describe inventory recording techniques in a postharvest operation, demonstrate knowledge of preventing wastage of inventory during storage in a postharvest operation, and manage an inventory management system in a postharvest operation. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Describe inventory management techniques in a postharvest operation. Performance criteria 1.1 The management of inwards inventory is explained in accordance with workplace procedures. Range 1.2 Storage requirements are explained in accordance with workplace procedures. Range 1.3 may include but is not limited to – identification, documentation, storage location, systems used within the postharvest operation. storage conditions, correct location, damaged produce, systems to minimise inventory losses. Dispatch systems are explained in accordance with workplace procedures. Element 2 Describe inventory recording techniques in a postharvest operation. Performance criteria 2.1 Inventory recording requirements are explained in accordance with workplace procedures. Range may include but is not limited to – records of product movement, volume, methods of calculations, product classifications, physical identification of inventory. Performance criteria 3.1 Factors causing wastage of inventory are described according to the product. Range 3.2 may include but is not limited to – product damage, storage conditions, handling, stock rotation, deterioration, monitoring frequency. Methods to limit inventory losses are described according to workplace practices. Range may include but is not limited to – repositioning of inventory, storage condition changes, condition checking, repacking, FIFO (first in first out). Element 4 Manage an inventory management system in a postharvest operation. Performance criteria 4.1 The inwards inventory is managed in accordance with workplace procedures. Range 4.2 may include but is not limited to – identification, documentation, storage location, operating systems. Storage requirements are managed in accordance with workplace procedures. Range may include but is not limited to – storage conditions, correct location, damaged produce, systems to minimise produce losses. 4.3 Dispatch systems are managed in accordance with workplace procedures. 4.4 Inventory recording systems are managed in accordance with workplace procedures. 4.5 Inventory is managed to minimise wastage. Range may include but is not limited to – inventory management, storage condition management, condition checking, repacking, FIFO (first in first out). Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
