People credited with this unit standard are able to: clean a filter; repair a leaking/broken irrigation pipe; manage pre- season maintenance of an irrigation system; and maintain an irrigation system. Range may include but is not limited to – O ring (disc), mesh, gravel or sand, cartridge, hydrocyclone. Performance criteria 1.1 Filters are described in terms of their working principles and maintenance requirements. 1.2 Two standard filters are cleaned, serviced and maintained. Element 2 Repair a leaking/broken irrigation pipe. Range two of the following – alkathene, PVC, threaded galvanised piping. Performance criteria 2.1 Damaged pipe is repaired with correct replacement equipment. 2.2 Leaks are sealed so that there is no water or pressure loss. 2.3 Pipe is restored to its original position. Element 3 Manage pre-season maintenance of an irrigation system. Performance criteria 3.1 System is checked and cleaned to ensure good working order. Range check all joiners and emitters; flush out the system; clean all filters; replace any damaged irrigation components. Element 4 Maintain an irrigation system. Performance criteria 4.1 Irrigation system is inspected daily and any blocked emitters and leaks are identified and reported in accordance with workplace procedures. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 22189 version 1 Page 3 of 3 4.2 Diary of maintenance work on irrigation system is completed and recorded for three consecutive months. 4.3 Portable system, if necessary, is stopped, moved and started with no crop and irrigation equipment damage. 4.4 Irrigation components are maintained with the manufacturer’s recommended replacement item so that there is no leak or pressure variation. 4.5 Output from an emitter or per unit area is measured regularly and recorded according to workplace procedures. Please note Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
