NZQA Expiring unit standard 7490 version 7 Page 1 of 3 Title Apply visual design elements to solve design problems Level 2 Credits 4 Purpose People credited with this unit standard are able to identify line and linear design as applied to the design of objects, and identify and develop shape and pattern for possible design solutions. Classification Design > Generic Design Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 This unit standard may be used to award credit for the achievement of learning outcomes consistent with Technology in the New Zealand Curriculum (Learning Media Wellington, 1995). 2 Evidence is required in relation to two or more briefs and to two or more problems. 3 The process and product used for evidence may involve a wide range of contexts and will be negotiated between assessor and candidate prior to assessment. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Identify line and linear design as applied to the design of objects. Evidence requirements 1.1 Examples of simple line diagrams relevant to a design problem are identified. Range 1.2 sources of examples may include but are not limited to - nature, structures, mathematics. Qualities of lines relevant to a design problem are identified, and described in terms of use and effect. Range thickness, weight, spacing, straight, curved, dashed. Evidence requirements 2.1 Examples of different types of shapes identified include straight sided outlines, curved, combinations, geometric, random, and symmetrical. 2.2 Shapes are developed for possible solutions to a design problem. Outcome 3 Identify and develop pattern for possible design solutions. Evidence requirements 3.1 Examples of different types of patterns relevant to a design problem are identified. Range 3.2 four of - patterns in nature, geometrical, random, abstract, repeating, positive and negative, optical effects. Patterns are developed for possible solutions to a design problem. Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Requirements for consent to assess and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Consent and Moderation Requirements (CMR). The CMR also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
