People credited with this unit standard are able to: use safe working practices; prepare to load freight containers with food or related products; and load freight containers with food or related products. PPE refers to personal protective equipment such as protective clothing, gloves, safety glasses/headwear/footwear, hearing protection, and safety devices. Related products refers to beverages, household products, or personal care products. 3 Range Competence is to be demonstrated on two occasions of packing freight containers with food or related products. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Use safe working practices. Performance criteria 1.1 PPE is used in accordance with organisational procedures. 1.2 Work environment is clean and free from hazards in accordance with organisational procedures. Range hazards to – personnel, product, plant. 1.3 Correct lifting and handling techniques are used in accordance with organisational procedures. 1.4 Documentation is referred to and/or completed in accordance with organisational procedures. Element 2 Prepare to load freight containers with food or related products. Performance criteria 2.1 Freight containers are prepared for loading in accordance with organisational procedures. 2.2 Freight containers are checked to ensure they are fit for purpose in accordance with organisational procedures. 2.3 Freight containers are checked to ensure they are in correct locations, and free from damage and contamination, in accordance with organisational procedures. Range contamination may include but is not limited to – rust, water, foreign matter that may damage stored products, odours, vermin. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 7786 version 4 Page 3 of 4 2.4 Freight containers are checked to ensure that the temperature is correct for scheduled product in accordance with organisational procedures. 2.5 Materials for prevention of product damage in transit are available in sufficient quantity for scheduled and anticipated loading in accordance with organisational procedures. Range materials may include but are not limited to – dunnage, lining. 2.6 Equipment for loading products into freight containers is available, operational and checked in accordance with organisational procedures. 2.7 Product is available in sufficient quantity for scheduled and anticipated loading requirements and is checked in accordance with organisational procedures. 2.8 Product for loading is checked to ensure that it is stacked in accordance with organisational procedures. Range product stacking requirements include but not limited to – stack pattern, height, stability, secure. Element 3 Load freight containers with food or related products. Performance criteria 3.1 Freight containers are loaded in accordance with organisational procedures. 3.2 Equipment used for loading food or related products is operated in accordance with organisational procedures. 3.3 Freight container is maintained at correct temperature for loaded product in accordance with organisational procedures. 3.4 Product is loaded in correct configuration and to correct height in accordance with load pattern specifications and organisational procedures. 3.5 Loaded product is made secure and stable, and is kept free from damage, in accordance with organisational procedures. 3.6 Loaded product and packaging integrity is maintained in accordance with organisational procedures. 3.7 Loaded containers are sealed, secured, and made ready for transport in accordance with organisational procedures. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
