Establish and deliver water supplies for fire fighting

3
This unit standard applies to the establishment of water
supplies from its source (both pressure fed and static), to and
from pumps up to the point of delivery.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: identify
water supplies for fire fighting; select and connect hoses and
waterway equipment; and recommission equipment after use.

Compliance with the fire and rescue service provider’s Health and Safety policy and
procedures is mandatory.

Definition
Fire and rescue service provider’s requirements refer to policies and procedures on
safety and operation set down by each fire and rescue service employer or host
organisation.

Assessment against this unit standard may take place under real or practical
simulated conditions.

Identify water supplies for fire fighting.

Available water sources are identified in accordance with the fire and rescue
service provider’s requirements.

Suitability of available water sources is assessed for fire fighting purposes in
accordance with the fire and rescue service provider’s requirements.

Evidence requirements
2.1
Selection and connection of hoses and waterway equipment allows water to be
supplied from the water source to and from pumps in accordance with the fire
and rescue service provider’s requirements.

and/or flow requirements, friction loss.

2.2
A portable dam is set up in accordance with the fire and rescue service
provider’s requirements.
Outcome 3
Recommission equipment after use.
Evidence requirements
3.1
Site is restored and equipment is recommissioned in accordance with the fire
and rescue service provider’s requirements.
3.2
Documentation is completed in accordance with the fire and rescue service
provider’s requirements.

Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA, or
an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can
report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading
to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
Consent requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for
tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
