This qualification has been reviewed and replaced by the New Zealand Certificate in
Fellmongery and Leather Processing (Level 3) [Ref: 2486].
Last date for entry into the replaced National Certificate is 31 December 2016.
Last date for award of the replaced National Certificate is 31 December 2018.
It is recommended that candidates currently enrolled in this qualification who will be unable
to complete the qualification by the 31 December 2018 transfer to the replacement
qualification listed above.
It is the intention of Primary ITO that no existing trainee should be disadvantaged by these
transition arrangements. Any person who considers they have been disadvantaged may
appeal to the Primary ITO, below.

Purpose
The National Certificate in Fellmongery Processing (Knowledge of Slipe Wool and Pickled
Pelt Production) [Ref: 0913] recognises that the holder has an understanding of the
principles and practices associated with the production of slipe wool and pickled pelts in
New Zealand.
The holder of this qualification will also have general knowledge of the raw material types
used in slipe wool production and pelt manufacture, aspects of slipe wool and pickled pelt
grading, pollution control, and general knowledge of leather manufacture from pelts.
The qualification is intended to give a foundation for those not requiring detailed technical
knowledge but provides a means of preparation for those who wish to move towards the
National Certificate in Leather Manufacture Technology (Introductory) (Level 3) available
with Merit [Ref: 0419] or the National Certificate in Leather Manufacture Technology
(Advanced) (Level 4) available with Merit [Ref: 0420].
People wishing to specialise in a specific function or process should refer to the National
Certificate in Fellmongery Processing with strands in Slipe Wool Grading, Pickled Pelt
Grading, and Pickled Pelt Processing [Ref: 0688].

Requirements for Award of Qualification
This qualification will be awarded to people who have met the requirements of the elective
sections. The credit total for the qualification must include a minimum of 40 credits at Level
3 or above.
Elective 1
A minimum of 35 credits is required from the list of standards.
Elective 2
The balance of credits if required, to achieve a minimum of 40 credits at Level 3 or above,
from the domains listed.

Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.
Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the
purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided in the Qualifications Authority Rules
and Procedures publications available at www.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/.
Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions
and retain their identification number (Id). Any version of a standard with the same Id may be used to meet
qualification requirements that list the Id and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.

Version 2 was issued following review.
Changes to structure and content
 Decrease in credit value from 46 to 40.
 Removal of compulsory section from qualification.
 Transfer of standards 18568, 18569, 18570, and 18573 from Compulsory to new
Elective 1.
 Transfer of standards 18571, 18572, 18574, and 18575 from Elective to new
Elective 2.
 Addition of domains to new Elective 2.
People currently working towards version 1 of this qualification may complete that version
or transfer their results to version 2.
Both versions of this qualification will be recognised by the New Zealand Industry Training
Organisation.
It is not intended that anyone is disadvantaged by this review, and the above
arrangements have been designed for a smooth transition. However, anyone who feels
they have been disadvantaged may appeal to the standard setting body.
