Purpose
This unit standard is intended for people who are working in a
livestock farming operation and recognises the skills and
knowledge necessary to take responsibility for implementing a
livestock health plan.

Explanatory notes
1
Definition
Workplace procedures refer to verbal or written instructions to staff on procedures for
maintaining farm records.

Learners must implement an existing livestock health plan that they may not have
been involved in creating.

Assessment against this unit standard must take place in the context of a specific
farming operation.

The livestock health plan and its implementation must comply with the Animal
Welfare Act 1999 and relevant codes of welfare (http://www.mpi.govt.nz).

Learners are expected to seek specialist advice as required during the
implementation of the livestock health plan.

Demonstration of understanding may be assessed in a number of ways, which could
include the ability to complete practical tasks, if it is clear that the understanding is
essential underpinning understanding to the task/s, and that the task/s could not be
completed without the learner having that understanding.
