NZQA registered unit standard 28924 version 1 Page 1 of 2 Title Assist with supplying water to livestock in a pastoral livestock workplace Level 3 Credits 5 Purpose This unit standard is intended for people who assist with supplying water to livestock in a pastoral livestock workplace. Classification Agriculture > Farming Skills Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Legislation relevant to this unit standard is the Animal Welfare Act 1999, and relevant Codes of Practice published by the Ministry for Primary Industries at http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/regs/animal-welfare/stds/codes. 2 Water quantity is defined as the water required by an individual member of a livestock species, and the amount of water required to be supplied to a group of livestock. Appropriate units will vary according to livestock and farm type. Appropriate units where water is reticulated to livestock will be expressed as a rate, for example litres/hour. 3 Workplace procedures refer to the verbal or written instructions to staff on procedures for supplying water to livestock of animal health, welfare, and management. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Assist with supplying water to livestock in a pastoral livestock workplace. Evidence requirements 1.1 Describes the quantity of water required by one livestock species and calculates the requirements of a group of livestock. 1.2 Describes at least three water sources for livestock. 1.3 Demonstrates how the components of a farm water supply system are used to supply water to livestock. 1.4 Checks day to day stock water supply.
