All activities must comply with service provider
guidelines, protocols, staff manuals, strategic
plans.

All activities must comply with the cultural
requirements and practices that are relevant to the
Pacific Islands service user and their family.

All activities must comply with relevant cultural,
legislative, and regulatory requirements, which
include but are not limited to: Code of Health and
Disability Services Consumers’ Rights 1996; NZS
8134:2001, Health and Disability Sector
Standards; Health and Disability Services (Safety)
Act 2001; Health and Safety in Employment Act
1992; Human Rights Act 1993; Official Information
Act 1982; Privacy Act 1993.

Pacific people and Pacific service users refers to
people from the main Pacific Island groups represented
in Aotearoa New Zealand; namely - Samoan, Tongan,
Cook Islands, Niuean, Tokelauan, Fijian, Tuvaluan,
Solomon Islands, Kiribati.

negotiation and informed consent, and criteria
established by legislation, ethical practice, and service
provider guidelines. In the context of this unit standard,

People seeking award of credit for this unit standard
must show that their actions are guided and supported
by valid theory for practice in employment support.
Evidence is required of theory that is derived from
authoritative sources, which may include but are not
limited to: the body of knowledge related to employment
support work; social service work; cultural theory; or
practice research.

The candidate is required to take all necessary steps to
ensure the safety and self determination of Pacific
service users (and their families) to whom they are
offering employment support. These measures are in
accordance with criteria established by relevant
cultural, legislative, and regulatory requirements.

Analyse issues facing Pacific people with disability seeking employment.

Issues facing Pacific people with disability seeking employment are analysed
and explained.
Range:
1.2
The analysis of issues facing Pacific people with disability seeking employment
is located within the context of different Pacific peoples' realities within Aotearoa
New Zealand.
Range:
1.3
issues may include but are not limited to - impact of Pacific
colonisation; discrimination, racism, stigma; institutionalisation;
language; different approaches to health and disability taken by
generic providers (individualistic and medical models of health and
disability) and Pacific peoples' approaches; socio-economic
status; systemic intersection of health, disability, education, and
justice for Pacific peoples, and the impact on Pacific people with
disability; availability and level of access to culturally appropriate
services by Pacific peoples; level of un-met need for services;
level of participation by Pacific peoples generally in the labour
market; different issues for specific groups of Pacific peoples.
Evidence is required of six issues.

Employment support service providers are analysed in terms of barriers they
may present to employment of Pacific people with disability or their positive
involvement in employment initiatives for Pacific people with disability.

evidence is required of two contrasting types of employment
support service providers available to Pacific people with disability
nationally or locally.

Issues facing Pacific people with disability seeking employment are analysed
and explained in terms of their relevance to providing effective employment
support services for Pacific people.
1.6
The analysis of issues facing Pacific people with disability seeking employment
includes a personal response and an explanation of the role and boundaries of
Pacific and non-Pacific people in effecting development in employment support
services.

Explain how to support a Pacific service user to access generic employment support
services.
Range:
evidence may consist of explanation alone, or a combination of explanation and
demonstration of support of one Pacific service user.

The explanation outlines a process that is culturally safe and consistent with the
cultural values of a Pacific service user and others who would be involved in the
process.
2.2
The explanation outlines a process to assist a Pacific service user to assess
their presenting needs related to employment.

and boundaries in supporting Pacific service users to access generic
employment support services.
2.6
The explanation provides for development and implementation of all support
processes in consultation with the Pacific service user and other people
significant to the service user.

improvement and removal of any barriers for Pacific service users.

Recommendations outline strategies for incorporating feedback from Pacific
