Explanatory notes 1 This unit standard is intended for, but not restricted to, workplace assessment. The range statements within the unit standard can be applied according to enterprise specific equipment, procedures and processes. 2 Safety of personnel and plant must be a priority throughout the assessment. If the safety requirements are not met the assessment must stop. 3 Performance and work practices in relation to the outcomes and evidence requirement must comply with all current legislation, especially the Electricity Act 1992 and any subsequent amendments, and any regulations, codes of practice recognised under that statute, Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Approved Code of Practice – Power-Operated Elevating Work Platforms, the Resource Management Act 1991, and their subsequent amendments, electricity supply industry codes of practice and documented enterprise procedures. Asset owner refers to the owner of an electricity supply network that takes its point of supply from Transpower NZ, and delivers electricity to industrial, commercial and residential customers. Asset owner standards are the approved documented work site methods for carrying out work on an electrical supply network to the standard required by the asset owner. 6 This unit standard is intended for use in the assessment of Distribution and Transmission Line Mechanics and all terminology should be related to that sector of the industry. 7 Assessment of practical skills against the outcomes in this standard requires three practical observations from three different workplace activities. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Interpret the scope of work for electricity network pole structures. Evidence requirements 1.1 Pole type and size are established. Range 1.2 Structure arrangement is established. Range 1.3 may include but is not limited to – crane, helicopter, manual, winch; evidence of two is required. Pole setting arrangements are established. Range 1.5 angle, equipment support, intermediate, termination. Installation method is established. Range 1.4 may include but is not limited to – composite, concrete, steel, wood, pole length, pole circumference, pole strength, pole treatment, pole material properties; evidence of two pole types and sizes is required. anchoring, blocking, compaction, depth, guying. Underground services are checked and located. Outcome 2 Install electricity network pole hardware. Evidence requirements 2.1 Hardware is selected to match scope of work. Range 2.2 includes but is not limited to – braces, conductor attachments, insulators, signs; any two of the following – cross arms, step bolts, cam levers, head spans. Hardware is attached. Outcome 3 Erect pole and replace electricity network pole structures. Evidence requirements 3.1 Pole hole is excavated. Range mechanical, manual. 3.2 Pole is erected. 3.3 Pole is set. Range 3.4 concrete, breast toe blocks, direct back fill, imported back fill. Site is reinstated. Outcome 4 Report work done on electricity network pole structures. Range may include but is not limited to – electric line history, test reports and results, service report, work report; evidence of two is required. Evidence requirements 4.1 Reported information is complete, concise, and legible. 4.2 Information is recorded in the required company or assets owners’ format and filed within the scheduled time-frame.
