People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare to provide one to one on-job instruction, prepare the trainee for instruction, give one to one on-job instruction, provide opportunity for the trainee to practice and confirm that the trainee has reached the required standard of performance in a dairy industry workplace.

This unit standard is for experienced employees who provide on job instruction to new or inexperienced staff in specific job situations in a dairy industry workplace.

Explanatory notes

1 Organisational requirements refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures that are documented in memoranda and/or manuals and are available in the workplace. These requirements include but are not limited to – site-specific requirements, company quality management requirements, hygiene, health and safety, regulatory and legislative requirements.

2 Training objective refers to statement containing a performance standard.

3 Step refers to a logical segment of the operation or task that substantially advances the work.

4 Key point refers to anything in a step that might make or scrap the work, injure a person, make the work easier to do, or piece of special information or timing.

5 Evidence for this unit standard is a minimum of two training sessions (one training session for one task and one trainee; the second training session to be a different task and a different trainee). At least one of the training sessions must be performed in the workplace. This allows for simulated training sessions as part of the training for on-job instructors as well as a workplace exercise.

6 All work practices must meet codes of practice and organisational requirements.

The session training objective reflecting the specific training need is clarified and agreed with relevant personnel.

Range relevant personnel include but are not limited to

– supervisors, managers, trainers, human resources staff.

1.2 A training plan covering content, sequence, key steps, and key points is prepared which relates to the session training objective.

1.3 The training plan includes how the trainee will be put at ease, given incentives to learn, and questions to be asked to gain involvement of the trainee.

1.4 The training plan includes details of equipment and resources that will be required for the training session.

Prepare the trainee for instruction in a dairy industry workplace.

Evidence requirements

2.1 The location, equipment, and materials are ready.

2.2 The trainee is put at ease, an outline is provided of the training objectives, the importance of the tasks and where they fit into the bigger picture, and the assessment processes.

Confirm that the trainee has reached the required standard of performance and evaluate instruction in a dairy industry workplace.

Evidence requirements

Performance is evaluated against the training objective. 5.1

5.2 The trainee is advised upon reaching the required standard of performance.

5.3 Relevant personnel are advised of trainee progress and achievement of standard in accordance with organisational requirements.

Range relevant personnel include but are not limited to

– supervisors, managers, trainers, human resources staff.

5.4 Stakeholder feedback is sought on delivery of instruction and analysed to determine required changes.
