This unit standard covers the setting of can automatic component assembly machines to assemble steel can rings, lids, and aluminium foil via a five-stage assembly process: separation of lids and rings from their hoppers; pressing of lids into rings; feeding of aluminium foil, cutting of aluminium foil and pressing into rings and lids; and removal of finished ring, lid and foil (RLF) assemblies.

1.2 Tools and fittings for setting an assembler embosser are identified, selected and explained in terms of their purpose and method of operation and are verified against production requirements.

1.3 Setting of an assembler embosser is explained in terms of potential safety hazards, procedural sequence, and key points for each key step.

Range: key steps to include

– machine cleaning, prior adjustments, handling of equipment.

1.4 Machine is prepared for embosser change and embosser assembly is changed in accordance with worksite procedures.

Perform quality control checks on the operation of an automated can component assembler.

Range: quality control checks may include but are not limited to – scratches, dents, pressure test, foil defects. performance criteria

4.1 Quality control checks are performed and recorded in accordance with worksite procedures.

4.2 Quality control check results are explained in terms of relationships with assembler settings, product specification tolerances, and variance trends.
