Purpose
This unit standard is for people working in the amenity horticulture industry.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: produce a management
plan for a defined amenity area for a period of one year; manage that area in
accordance with the plan; and review the management of the defined
amenity area and complete documentation.

Workplace procedures refer to verbal or written instructions to staff on procedures for
the worksite and equipment.

managed over a period of one year.
Alternatively several smaller amenity horticulture areas totalling this area could be
used for this unit standard.

Produce a management plan for a defined amenity horticulture area, for one year.
Performance criteria
1.1
Goals and objectives for the management of an amenity horticulture area are
identified in consultation with client.
1.2
Actions required to achieve the goals and objective of the management plan are
identified.
1.3
A management plan is developed and documented in terms of the identified
requirements.

Performance indicators are incorporated into the management plan to monitor
progress.

to ensure performance indicators are met.

2.2
Maintenance tasks for the amenity horticulture area are carried out in
accordance with the prepared plan.

2.3
maintenance may include but is not limited to – cultivation,
fertilising, irrigation, pruning and training, turf control, weed control,
replacement of dead/damaged plant material, new plantings,
seasonal planting and removal activities, rubbish removal,
identification and correction of problems with amenity structures.
Plant health in the amenity horticulture area is managed in accordance with the
prepared plan, taking action as required.
Range
plant health may include but not limited to – pests, diseases,
physiological disorders, fertilising, damage;
action may include but not limited to – prevention, control,
correction, reporting.
2.4
Variations from the management plan are identified and appropriate courses of
action are implemented to alleviate any shortcomings.
2.5
Materials, tools, equipment, and machinery appropriate to the tasks are
selected and used in accordance with the management plan.
Element 3
Review the management of the defined amenity area and produce records/reports.
Performance criteria
3.1
Workplace information is recorded and/or stored according to workplace
procedures.
Range
may include – standard operating procedures, specifications,
maintenance programmes, diary entries, spray diary entries,
instructions, work notes, material safety data sheets,
manufacturers’ instructions, contracts, timesheets, health and
safety data.
3.2
Management of the amenity horticulture area is reviewed against the
management plan and performance indicators, and possible improvements
identified.
3.3
Outcomes of review are presented to appropriate personnel in accordance with
workplace procedures, and any recommendations for change are supported by
evidence.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.

Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this
standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for
tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
