People credited with this unit standard are able to: plan and prepare to screen print signs; screen print signs; and clean equipment and work area. Classification Printing > Signmaking Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Legislation and references relevant to this unit standard include but are not limited to – Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Resource Management Act 1991. 2 Definitions Company requirements refer to any documented policies and procedures of the company involved. Tools, equipment and materials may refer to – drying racks, inks, palette knife, screen, screening table, squeegee, ruler, stencil knife, block out, masking tape, spray adhesive, stencil films, cardboard, cleaning solvents. Substrates may refer to – glass, materials, metals, paper, plastics, wood. Client may refer to business owners, printers, property owners, sign manufacturers, statutory bodies. Job requirements refer to the information provided about the agreed work to be completed. 3 A minimum of two different signs of a minimum of A3 size is required. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Plan and prepare to screen print signs. Evidence requirements 1.1 Work area is prepared for screen printing in accordance with company and legislative requirements. Competenz SSB Code 101571 New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA registered unit standard 27584 version 1 Page 2 of 3 1.2 Job specifications are identified in accordance with any drawings, job requirements and the client’s brief. 1.3 Tools, equipment and materials are selected to carry out tasks in accordance with company requirements. 1.4 Substrates are identified and prepared to meet the job requirements in accordance with company requirements. 1.5 Design for printing is identified and reproduced for screen face in accordance with company requirements. 1.6 Material to be screen printed is prepared and located to position for printing. 1.7 Multiple colour screen-printing is identified and number of screens determined and produced in accordance with job specifications. 1.8 Materials for screen face is marked by transferring design and cut to set out shape in accordance with job specifications and company requirements. Outcome 2 Screen print signs. Evidence requirements 2.1 Stencils and/or screens are prepared and manufactured to meet job specifications. 2.2 Ink is prepared ready for application in accordance with job specifications and company requirements. 2.3 Printing process is set up for operation with material and screen aligned to meet job specifications. 2.4 Screens are printed onto substrates to achieve registration in accordance with job specifications. 2.5 Any problems and faults are identified and corrective actions taken in accordance with company requirements. Outcome 3 Clean equipment and work area. Evidence requirements 3.1 Equipment is cleaned and stored in accordance with legislative and company requirements. 3.2 Work site is cleaned and waste removed in accordance with legislative and company requirements.
