Wording highlighted in yellow on the template is required language and should not be changed. Best practice concerning the rest of the language would be to stick to the template as much as possible. However, it is understood that some customization and modification will be necessary. Please use your best judgment and ensure the items of significance; like the tenure information, etc. is correctly stated. Sections in red should be reviewed for applicability to your offer. Note that the only reference to a date in the opening paragraph is that this appointment will become effective upon the Provost’s signature. This is different than the past where we have normally listed a start date in the opening paragraph. The start and end dates of the appointment can be found in the “Tenure and Applicable Terms & Conditions of Faculty Appointments” section. It is understood this could be confusing to some. However, this is an intentional and material change and the language should not be altered. A specific time period for earning a PhD may be inserted into the template if needed. Offer letters for Tenure Track Faculty require original signatures when submitted to the Employment Center.
