ASSESSMENT MEASURES EMPLOYED Briefly describe the assessment measures employed during the year. 1. An internet survey was distributed during the academic year to graduates of the previous year (and earlier) inquiring about their employment. 2. Communication through alumni webpage and Facebook pages to determine success of graduates, and compilation of such data. 3. Interviews with visiting alumni by department chair, information compiled by chair. 2. ASSESSMENT FINDINGS List the objectives and outcomes assessed during the year, and briefly describe the findings for each. Objectives and Outcomes Graduates of the BFA Acting/Musical Theatre degree program will achieve: a. Admission to graduate schools in acting, singing and/or dancing b. Employment as actors, singers and/or dancers c. Successful pursuit of related field work, such as forensics, public speaking, theatre education, etc. Findings Graduates of the BFA Acting/Musical Theatre degree program achieved: a. RESPONSE TO ASSESSMENT FINDINGS List planned or actual changes (if any) to curriculum, teaching methods, facilities, or services that are in response to the assessment findings. None planned at this time. (Still acclimating to semester transition.) 4. ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES FOR COMING YEAR Briefly describe the learning outcomes to be assessed during the upcoming year and the measures that will be used to assess them. Learning Outcomes 1. Students in Acting and Acting/Musical Theatre (BFA) will demonstrate: a. Skills for auditions for productions b. Performance skills in variety of roles in WSU productions c. Technical skills necessary to pursue acting as a profession d. Knowledge of theatre history and dramatic literature. e. Knowledge of business side of the acting profession. Assessment Measures for Acting/Musical Theatre: Measure One: To determine their auditioning skills, students partake in an auditioning class during which their abilities and accomplishments are critiqued and evaluated. Measure Two: Performance skills are directly measured by the students being cast in a variety of roles in WSU productions over four years. Measure Three: Technical proficiency in stage combat is determined by testing acting seniors at the end of two semesters in their senior year by a nationally recognized fight master from the Society of American Fight Directors, to determine their proficiency in three to four weapons styles. Measure Four: Knowledge of theatre history and dramatic literature is measured through the evaluation of students' work in two required classes. Measure Five: In addition to a senior class in professional preparation, knowledge of the business side of acting profession is determined by acting and acting/musical theatre students partaking in senior professional showcase in New York (and/or by residency by casting director at WSU), during which knowledge of profession is appraised. 5. UNIVERSITY LEARNING OUTCOME ASSESSMENT As part of the HLC Academy project, each program of study will eventually assess two University Learning Outcomes in required courses in the major. One outcome will be assessed in 2014-15, and the second will be added in 2015-16. Identify the two ULOs that will be assessed and, if possible, the likely course(s) to be used. To Be Assessed in 2014-2015 University Learning Outcome #1: Effective communication Possible courses to be used for assessment: TH 3800 Theatre History and Literature I, TH 3810 Theatre History and Literature II; TH One Person Shows; all Voice and Speech classes To Be Assessed in 2015-2016 University Learning Outcome #4: Application of the methods of inquiry of the natural sciences, social sciences, and the arts and humanities Possible courses to be used for assessment: TH 2400 Movement for the Actor; all Acting courses requiring text analysis (this constitutes the majority of the Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years of the curriculum)
