None * Due to a pending plan to develop an electronic format for Alumni Surveys, this year’s scheduled Alumni Survey has been put on hold 2. ASSESSMENT FINDINGS List the objectives and outcomes assessed during the year, and briefly describe the findings for each. Objective 1: Students will have integrated drawing skills into their aesthetic sensibility. In exit interviews, 36 of 39 students surveyed believed they had Integrated drawing skills into their aesthetic sensibility In exit interviews, some students mentioned that drawing was necessary and valuable to all studio programs of study. Objective 2: Students’ work will demonstrate an acquaintance with the materials and and procedures of five of the studio disciplines taught at WSU. In exit interviews, 39 of the 39 students surveyed believed they had an understanding of the materials and procedures of the studio disciplines In written exams, 38 of 39 graduating seniors gave a clear explanation of materials and procedures Objective 3: Students will show proficiency and have an in-depth understanding of of at least one studio discipline taught at WSU In exit interviews, 39 of 39 students surveyed felt they had proficiency and an in-depth understanding of their area of concentration Objective 4: Students will have an understanding of the evolution of art history. In exit interviews, 32 of the 39 students surveyed felt they had an overall understanding of the evolution of western art. In written exams, 73% of the answers to art history questions were correct Objective 5: Students will have integrated the study of original works of art into their artistic practice. In exit interviews, 37 of 39 students surveyed felt they had integrated the study of original works of art into their artistic practice In written exams 27 students were able to give concrete examples of how they had utilized the study of original works of art in creating their own work. List planned or actual changes (if any) to curriculum, teaching methods, facilities, or services that are in response to the assessment findings. In response to curricular needs and to fill a vacancy left by retirement, a second faculty member was added to the Painting area In response to faculty concerns relating to increased rigor in the program, the BFA review is being reinstated To build on students’ out of class experiences with original works of art, the department will continue conducting more field trips as well as continue other successful programs like visiting artists and informal critiques In response to exit interview comments not connected to specific learning outcomes mentoring in the areas of career and post graduate opportunities will be enhanced and improved In response to exit interview comments not connected to specific learning outcomes, efforts will continue, in coordination with the Assistant Dean’s office, to improve overall advising effectiveness. 4. UNIVERSITY LEARNING OUTCOME ASSESSMENT As part of the HLC Academy project, each program of study will eventually assess two University Learning Outcomes in required courses in the major. One outcome will be assessed in 2014-15, and the second will be added in 2015-16. Identify the two ULOs that will be assessed and, if possible, the likely course(s) to be used. ULO #1 – The Department of Art and Art History will compare random samples of writing from Art History I and II with random samples of writing from 3000 and 4000 level art history courses. ULO #4 – The Department of Art and Art History will utilize an outside reviewer to compare student work from Drawing II (2280) with student work from the Senior Thesis Exhibition to improvement and application of drawing methodologies.
