Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Introduce queen bee cells into a beehive.
Range
one of – 3 day old cells, 10 day old cells.
Performance criteria
1.1
Queen bee cell is removed from cell raiser and transported to apiary site without
damage or compromise to queen bee health in accordance with in-house
procedures.
1.2
Queen bee cell is introduced into the beehive in accordance with in-house
procedures.
1.3
Feed supply is maintained in accordance with in-house procedures.
1.4
Check for queen bee emergence is carried out in accordance with in-house
procedures.
Element 2
Introduce a caged queen bee into a beehive.
Performance criteria
2.1
Mailing cages are separated and the new queen bee is checked in accordance
with in-house procedures.
2.2
Candy end of cage is prepared in accordance with in-house procedures.
2.3
The beehive is opened and the old queen bee is located and removed in
accordance with in-house procedures.
2.4
The queen cage is placed into the centre of the beehive box in accordance with
in-house procedures.
2.5
The beehive is fed and closed and the queen bee is monitored in accordance
with in-house procedures.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
