knives and braze joints and corners; fit tubes and prickers to
knives; apply codes and marks to knives; check and rectify
knives; paint and pack knives; and complete documentation.

Company safety requirements must conform to the
Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, the Health
and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995, and their
subsequent amendments.

This unit standard refers exclusively to making knives
using various widths and thicknesses of 'pre-sharpened
cold bend knife blade steel' (knife steel). Common
widths are, 19mm, 23.8mm, 32mm, 50mm. This unit
standard is not applicable to making 'forge steel knives'
or knives from 'rule steel'.

Slag is cleaned from welded knives in accordance with company practice.
1.2
Corners are hammered sharp to fit patterns in accordance with company
practice.
1.3
Brazing rod and/or brazing steel is selected to match knife area to be brazed
and in accordance with company practice.
1.4
Bevel of knife joints are brazed in accordance with company practice.
1.5
Brazing is cleaned and filed to company tolerances.

Diameter of selected drills matches diameter of tubes and/or prickers to ensure
press fit in accordance with company tolerances.

Stays are drilled and tubes and/or prickers are inserted in accordance with
order requirements, company practice, and to company tolerances.
