Fall 2010
ACTIVITY REPORT
CAMPUS ASSEMBLY PHYSICAL FACILITIES COMMITTEE
The Campus Assembly Physical Facilities Committee has met twice since the last campus
assembly meeting. For 2010-11, Robert Krumwiede and Mick McComber were reelected chair
and vice chair, respectively.
Project Updates
John King and John Rashid provided members with ongoing updates on completed, current,
future and potential capital projects. For this reporting period, these projects included the Griggs
addition, ice rink, Kirby Student Center skylight/roof repairs, Glensheen carriage house roof
replacement and screened porch repairs, Swenson Civil Engineering Building, renovations to
Chemistry 140, Romano Gym, Humanities, Chester Park, Montague Hall, the American Indian
Learning Resource Center, Bagley Outdoor Classroom, public art for the Sports and Health
Center and Swenson Civil Engineering buildings, campus road work and HEAPR (Higher
Education Asset Preservation and Replacement) projects.
Parking Updates
Cheryl Love, Parking Services, attends the Committee meetings as a regular guest to provide
parking information, including the status of permits still available, increase or decrease of spaces,
and assessments of usage. At the October meeting she reported to the Committee that there is
still a waiting list for maroon permits, which sold out early this year; there are a limited number
of gold permits still available; and housing permits were not sold out, allowing some housing lots
to be used as overflow for maroon. Parking Services is still doing lot surveys and finds that,
between 10 a.m. and noon, the only vacancies are in the overflow lots.
Bikes on Campus
Members discussed planned activities and current student initiatives with the goal of making
UMD and Duluth friendlier to bikes. This topic will be addressed again at the November
meeting.
Space Requests
At both meetings Members discussed ways in which the committee could be helpful in
identifying space needs on campus, and providing input to consider in prioritizing those needs.
A process has been identified and input will be gathered and provided to the committee for
discussion.
