Per your request, I’m attaching a copy of the presentation we prepared, presented and discussed at our
meeting. Along with that, the following are my notes from our discussions:

Although there is a need to move SAFE off of the mainframe, Peralta is very risk averse. As
such, this migration needs to be done correctly the first time.
Peralta would like to incorporate new requirements such as those from the Fit/Gap analysis
into the initial implementation of SAFE-Web (as opposed to converting mainframe system
over first as-is and then making changes)
For historical student and award data, Peralta would like to keep 7 years of data. It makes
the most sense to keep this data in SAFE (as opposed to data mart) for viewing/querying
since we can use SAFE user interface. We will need to work together to define which data
needs to be kept for historical purposes.
For check writing, future plans would be to have the student agree to have administrative
fees taken out of their Financial Aid check. To do this, check would be disbursed through
PeopleSoft with info flowing back into SAFE and data mart. Using a Smart Card instead of a
check is also a possibility for the future. Currently, the best approach is to incorporate
existing Peralta programs for check writing into the SAFE system so that checks can be
disbursed from SAFE directly. Disbursement information will need to be stored in the data
mart.
SAFE is the only production application still on the mainframe. Peralta is currently moving all
legacy data to the data warehouse.
To Peralta, the target application programming language is unimportant – Peralta shouldn’t
have the need to access it directly
Peralta is not opposed to a SaaS model for delivery. It just needs to be SAS 70 compliant.
Having a universal view among all colleges is key!!!
Giving students the ability to view their FA information via a student portal is a very
desirable feature. To allow Peralta to do this in the future, we need to ensure that the
appropriate data is stored in the data mart for a PeopleSoft pull.
Peralta FA administrators understand that in order to create a system that truly reflects
their needs, they’re input is critical. We will investigate a business process modeling
approach so that we can determine resources required, timeline for completion, etc.
Please let me know if there are any additional takeaways from our meeting. As always, it was a pleasure
to meet with your team and we look forward to working with you closely to make much more progress
in the near future.
Regards,
Sherri Sanchez
