 LANTH 22A: LANTH 18LA will replace 22A. To
parallel this change, LANTH 18LB will soon replace

LRNRE 261: Remove the word “basic” and add
“Recommend students see a Disability Services
Program Counselor before Enrolling” to the catalog
description.
 LRNRE 262: Replace the word “Math” with
“Mathematics” on the course title. Add “Recommend
students see a Disability Services Program Counselor
before Enrolling” to the catalog description.”
 SOC 13: please make sure that the catalog
description matches what BCC has for the course. It
was noted that a couple of years ago, Laney and
BCC agreed to change the course description of the
course.
 Landscape Horticulture AA: Replace LANTH 22A
with LANTH 18A.
The following were discussed:
 Based on the survey administered by D. Eret, most
members of the CIPD are willing to participate on a
Technical Review meeting prior to CIPD. It was
suggested that Curriculum Chairs from all four
colleges take turns on reviewing the curriculum
proposals with A. ElMasry with at least 2 chairs
present at every meeting. This enables all four chairs
to become more familiar with the review process.
 No final decision has been made as to who will be
the next CIPD Chair.
 There was a consensus on the need for the Vice
Chancellor of Educational services to attend and be
more proactive at each and every CIPD meeting.

Jennifer Lowood and
Arja McCray will
conduct the first tech
review on January 2015.
If the CIPD Chair has
not been determined
before the February
2015 CIPD meeting,
Lowood and McCray
will co-chair the
meeting.

which will be held in the middle of the semester, will be for
discussion items only. The four regular meetings will be
devoted to curriculum items only. The proposed dates for the
two extra meetings are:
 March 16
 April 20
It was suggested that instead of March 16, the CIPD might
consider meeting in February.
The following items will be added to the first extra meeting:
 UCN Number System Change
 Basic Skills Coding Distinctions
 Curriculum META Transition Team
 Curriculum Review Processes

D. Eret presented the following statements for course
Statement for
deactivations:
Deactivations
 BANKING: For a specified two-year period (e.g,
starting when a course has been reviewed by a
Department Chair for accreditation purposes, found
to be outdated by the Curriculum Committee, or has
not been offered for successive semesters), a course
may be “banked,” or temporarily deactivated, within
our present curriculum database (Curricunet).
 DELETING: If this course has not been reactivated
or updated by the Department Chair after a specified
two-year period, it will be “deleted,” or permanently
deactivated, from ASSIST and other relevant
databases. This will be initiated by the Curriculum
Committee and finalized by the Department Chair.
The Department Chair may “delete” or permanently
deactivate courses at any time if they do not

articulate to other colleges or simply have no desire
to offer the course ever again.
 PROGRAM CHANGES: If deactivated courses are
tied to particular programs, the
 Department Chair must make changes to their
programs simultaneously and go through the same
curriculum approval process.
D. Eret reported that PCCD”s General Counsel has
responded to CIPD’s inquiry regarding student’s rights—
whether students have catalog rights. He was advised that
colleges should have accuracy statements such as:
“Berkeley City College endeavors to accurately and fairly
present its programs and its policies to the public. Those
responsible for the preparation of this catalog, the class
schedule and all other public announcements make every
effort to ensure that the information presented is correct and
up to date. However, Berkeley City College reserves the
right to add, amend or repeal any rules, regulations, policies
and procedures. The college assumes no responsibility for
program changes or publication errors beyond its control.
Please check our Web site at
http://www.berkeleycitycollege.edu, our catalog supplement,
errata page, or the state inventory for the most current
information.”
The following were discussed:
 Several members of CIPD expressed their concern
that the statement above might give the impression
that the catalogs are unreliable.
 It was also noted that students should not be directed
to the State Curriculum Inventory because of the

following reasons:
o It is not that easy to navigate the State
Curriculum Inventory.
o The public cannot see specific details about
programs.
There should be a database where students can
access information about all courses and programs in
the district. Curricunet should be that database, but
because of discrepancies with information on
Curricunet, we cannot rely on it at this point.
Inquiries should not be directed to Curriculum
Specialists as this would create more work for them.
It was suggested that the following revised statement be
used by the colleges:
“Berkeley City College endeavors to accurately and fairly
present its programs and its policies to the public. Those
responsible for the preparation of this catalog, the class
schedule and all other public announcements make every
effort to ensure that the information presented is correct and
up to date. However, Berkeley City College reserves the
right to add, amend or repeal any rules, regulations, policies
and procedures. The college assumes no responsibility for
program changes or publication errors beyond its control.
For the most current information, please check our Web site
at http://www.berkeleycitycollege.edu and our catalog
supplement.”
The CIPD need to identify a Curricunet Liaison. The
following were discussed:
 It was suggested that each college have their own
Curricunet Liaison. It was noted that this would not
work because of the following reasons:
o Most changes or errors on Curricunet affect

the whole district.
o Curricunet was adamant about
communication with only one person in the
District.
 It was noted that it would be ideal for one of the
Curriculum Chairs to be the liaison.
 A. Tomas volunteered to be the liaison if no one else
volunteers.
 It was also volunteered that since Curricunet is a
concern on all four colleges, maybe it should be
house in the Office of Educational Services.
 Because there are a number of major leadership and
organizational changes going on at Governet, we
need to make sure we are and will get the service we
need, insert contractual language if necessary to back
out of our deal, or consider alternative options (such
as statewide, free database that the state is already
discussing that would link more closely local
curriculum data, C-ID, and the state inventory). The
curriculum chairs listserv is presenting a number of
recent college accounts within the last few months
that are trying to implement Curricunet META and
are not getting what they were promised.
