The new location contains two exam rooms, an internal restroom, and separate counseling office which will also be utilized to provide confidential, free HIV testing. Services will resume in the new clinic location on January 10, 2011 Mondays and Wednesdays from 9am-5pm and include the following: Physical Exams Birth Control STD Testing & treatment HIV Testing Pelvic exams Immunizations Vaccinations Flu shots Pertussis TB Testing Doctors visits Referrals for urgent care Mental Health Individual Counseling Crisis Intervention Relationship Counseling Substance Use Screening, Engagement and Referral Stress Management Depression/Anxiety Counseling Substance Abuse Prevention Violence Prevention and Safety Mental Health Services: Asian Health Services will be directly supervising and hiring the LCSW instead of subcontracting a La Clinica de la Raza. This minor change was due to complications in billing for MediCal eligible students. This minor change will simplify the coordination of billing services to assist in leveraging funds for the health initiative. As of February 1, 2011 MediCal enrollment services will be provided at the Peralta Wellness Center Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. Currently signage and other visual indicators are being developed in conjunction with Peralta Facilities to assist in the promotion and increased visibility of the Peralta Wellness Center for students. Members of the SHSWG have scheduled a vigorous outreach schedule in the Spring 2011 semester to promote outreach about the new location and services provided through the Peralta Wellness Center. There will be full presence at all campus ‘Welcome Back’ events, as well as presentations to key campus faculty and Associated Student groups. Updated tools are being created to support and inform Peralta students and faculty on how to schedule an appointment at the Peralta Wellness Center. The Peralta Student Services website http://eperalta.org/wp/studenths/ is another current and updated resource for students to receive the latest information and details about the development 1 and expansion of the Peralta Health Initiative. The SHSWG has also created a Facebook page to begin promotion and student engagement in services. Service Report October 13, 2010 - December 15th 2010 A total of 18 clinics were held from October 13th, 2010-December 15th 2010. 108 clinical visits were conducted for a total of 76 students. Demographics: o 46% African American o 11% Asian o 8% Caucasian o 6% Hispanic/Latino o 5% Other Campus of Origin: o 83% Laney College o 10% Berkeley City College o 5% Merritt College o 2% College of Alameda The SHSWG is creating strategies to increase utilization of students from Berkeley City College, Alameda, and Merritt campuses in the spring semester. In addition to outreach presentations to key Peralta student organizations and faculty, the SHSWG is exploring budget opportunities to hire a work study student to assist with outreach and coordination of health education topics and onetime events. Expansion of services and hours are dependent on financial sustainability as well as the ability for Peralta to identify a facility that can be fully licensed and approved by the state medical association. State medical licensure is required for any medical clinic operating more than 20 hours weekly. Continued discussion is needed regarding identification of future sites once the Laney Student Center undergoes renovation. 2
