People credited with this unit standard are able to: clean the
gas path of aircraft gas turbine engines, and complete activities
related to the cleaning task.

Explanatory notes
1
All tasks are to be carried out in accordance with enterprise procedures, the
enterprise being the organisation carrying out the work. Enterprise procedures
referred to in this unit standard are the applicable procedures found in the following:
enterprise exposition; manufacturer publications; Government and local body
legislation; airworthiness authority requirements.

Definition
Foreign object debris (FOD) – anything that can find its way into an aircraft engine or
flight control mechanisms that could possibly cause damage to aircraft, equipment, or
people.

Outcome 1
Clean the gas path of the aircraft gas turbine engine.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Engine to be cleaned is identified by matching aircraft registration with
documentation.
1.2
Resources are obtained and checked for serviceability and status in accordance
with enterprise procedures.

materials, cleaning equipment, safety equipment and clothing.
Engine is prepared for cleaning in accordance with enterprise procedures.

enterprise procedures.

2.1
Post-cleaning engine inspection is carried out in accordance with enterprise
procedures.

run personnel.
2.3
Tools, materials, equipment, and publications are checked and returned to
service or storage and/or disposed of in accordance with enterprise procedures.
2.4
Work and aircraft area are left ready for further tasks in accordance with
enterprise procedures.
2.5
Documentation is completed in accordance with enterprise procedures.

before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses

Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
