Liability Claim Payments for Money or Damages
Per the Tort Claims Act, California Government Code Section 810 et seq., a claims against the
District for money or damages, unless exempt, shall be presented and acted upon as a
prerequisite to brining suit against the District.
Claims for damages against the District must be filed in writing with the District’s Director of
Risk Management, who shall be responsible for timely handling of such claims.
Claim settlements of $10,000 or less may be authorized by the Chancellor and will be reported to
the Board of Trustees for information. Settlements of more than $10,000 may be authorized only
by the Board of Trustees.
