V. Dual Enrollment

Mike & Adela

SB288 strong push from the state to increase the dual enrollment.

Some campuses have offered classes before but now there’s a bigger push.

Merritt is spearheading this project.

OUSD has requested specific classes but the campuses are not required to offer all requested.

Form issues: parent, principal, councilor signatures are required then it comes to the district all before the student can enroll with the classes.

Merritt A&R is overwhelmed with student forms that need to be processed

ASAP. Many students didn’t apply early or had fees (health fee, campus use, AC transit) which stop them from being able to apply. Fees are now fully waved but there are still past issues as of July 2015.

More staff is needed in order to complete the paperwork; requests have been made for the last 3 months to the higher ups for assistance. Staff assistant job will be posted to help address the issues between Merritt and Adela.

Provide more assistance to Adela.

Update

Lisa and Cleavon

The classes cannot be locked thus high school students face enrollment issues. The classes need to be clearly marked when they are being offered off normal campuses, i.e. at the high school. It’s up to the campus how to market the class, it also depends on enrollment.

Group of 30 faculty members representing different campuses and departments was created for this program. But at first they didn’t understand what the program was about, refresher training was desired.

Need to reduce the amount of codes.

Faculty needs to reach out to the student first then to the EA. Even with the short amount of time and training Adela believes that it’s a success.

Slide show presentation (please see DEC website)

Laney did not present, was not ready. Comment: the $ was supposed to be spent in closing the achievement gap but the presentations did not reflect this. The questions remains – how was the $ spent to show that the achievement gap was addressed?

Draft budget and proposals from the colleges has been submitted and will be reviewed during next meeting.

To develop noncredit courses, for OUSD adult ed courses has put no money into this program. CC to play a more active role.

Programing was cut 95% from OUSD but proposals have been put out but

CC cannot do it all themselves, trying to work in conjunction with active adult ed school.

Faculty is working on creating new programs, also trying to build bridges.

Noncredit curriculum is necessary to be part of this program. Not just about creating noncredit courses, more about creating bridges.

Concerns are being voiced about wither career components being addresses.

Merritt is submitting a noncredit certificates program for CHDV, which can be used for job placement.

AA achievement gap is a problem still not being addressed

Programs need to be tied with the campuses not just trying to fix problems.

Although the campus might be addressing the issues, the district needs to be aware of issues and what is going on at the campuses.

DAS to assist with the documents and involvement.

Need to find out how the student is requesting to be communicated with. If they agree to be texted how is that noted?

Same as personal email instead of

Peralta email.

Program to be implemented by

Lasana that can service groups of students going to separate campuses.

IX. Other Topics

Organizational structure starting at the district in order to measure the positive and negative aspects of the programs. Recruitment and intake needs to be tracked.

Communication between peers, talk with respect and do not attack each other. Dr. Love states that this is the hardest district to work for.

Put money into district A&R and SSSP/EA.

Achievement gaps, always missing/not addressed constant talking mostly about blacks and some about Mexican/Latino.
