Slides:
line = a mark left by a moving point (the
most fundamental element)
outline = the edge of a shape or figure
contour lines = the visible border of an
object in space (within an outline)
The book gives a poor definition for this.




Addl. static = still, unchanging
Addl. dynamic = changing or moving

the formal (or visual) elements = line,
space, light and color, texture, pattern,
time and motion
composition = the organization of
formal elements in a work of art
actual line __________ really there
implied line - - - - - - - - - not really
there, a gaze, gesture, or motion
kinetic art = It moves!
line quality = the dynamic range of line
expressive line = loose, gestural,
emotional, with feeling, from within
romantic = dramatic, emotional, and
subjective (strong feelings)
“Expressive” and “romantic” are similar.
Both are dramatic.
analytic (classical) line = rational,
mathematic, precise, logical
grid = an even pattern of horizontal and
vertical lines that cross each other to
make uniform squares or rectangles…










