Qualitative Assessments CTE and Vocational: Community and labor market relevance. Present evidence of community need based on Advisory Committee input, industry need data, McIntyre Environmental Scan, McKinsey Economic Report, licensure and job placement rates, etc. "Thin Gray Line" The industry needs new technicians. By 2012 the number of airliners will have doubled over the period of one decade. These aircraft will need qualified technicians to maintain them. Viet Nam era technicians are begininning to retire and the industry will need to replace these trained individuals. Commercial aviation is predicted to grow by 35% in the next four years. Transfer and Basic Skills: Describe how your course offerings address transfer, basic skills, and program completion. AMT is made up of forty-four different subject areas as mandated by the FAA. Currently AMT has articulation agrements with San Jose State and Embry-Riddle University. Both institutions accept all units completed in the AMT program. AMT courses require critical thinking, interpretation of manuals, following of directions, manual skills, and the application of Federal Aviation Regulations to the maintenance and inspection of aircraft systems. All course work is laid out in a progressive manner that encourages the AMT student, and aids the completion of the program. VI. Strategic Planning Goals Check all that apply. Describe how goal applies to your program. Advance Student Access, Success & Equity Engage our Communities & Partners Build Programs of Distinction Create a Culture of Innovation & Collaboration Develop Resources to Advance & Sustain Mission AMT faculty meet each semester with industry partners and recruiters in order to meet the needs of industry and to prepare our graduates for entering the job market. AMT has partnered with Oakland Unified School District and offers an aviation high school. Page 3 of 5 VII. College Strategic Plan Relevance Check all that apply New program under development Program that is integral to your college’s overall strategy Program that is essential for transfer Program that serves a community niche Programs where student enrollment or success has been demonstrably affected by extraordinary external factors, such as barriers due to housing, employment, childcare etc. Other VIII. Action Plan Please describe your plan for responding to the above data. Consider curriculum, pedagogy/instructional, scheduling, and marketing strategies. Also, please reference any cross district collaboration with the same discipline at other Peralta colleges. Include overall plans/goals and specific action steps. AMT has for many years suffered from a lack of marketing which has resulted in lower enrollment comapred to other A&P schools. AMT has sought to come up with innovative methods to promote the program. One of the faculty has been designated by the FAA as a saftey team member. Scheduled safety seminars will be held at the air facility. These seminars will target certificated airmen in the Bay Area. Utilizing the air facility for the seminars will expose the AMT program to the aviation community to the program. The FAA will require a curriculum change beginning Fall of 2012. AMT staff will, as soon as FAA documentation becomes available, work on the new curriculum and present to the curriculum committee. Several airlines have expressed an interest in donating an airliner to the program. The Port of Oakland has been contacted concerning the donation of additional land to store this aircraft. Full time instructors will need to be hired to replace those instructors that will be retiring. IX. Needs Please describe and prioritize any faculty, classified, and student assistant needs. One full time AMT instructor will be retiring December, 2010. Another full time instructor will be retiring June, 2011. As per 14 CFR Part 147 full staffing with qualified instructors is required to maintain FAA certification. The FAA does monitor staffing levels and instructor qualifications. Please describe and prioritize any equipment, material, and supply needs. An ARINC Buss 429 trainer is required to maintain AMT certification. This trainer meets the requirements of the revised FAA curriculum. The cost of the trainer is $11480.00 Support of the donation of a Boeing 727 airliner or 737 airliner is needed to continue the offering of AMT courses that meet the needs of industry. An extention to the current fence will be needed to protect the donated airliner. Please describe and prioritize any facilities needs. The 'A' building heating boiler needs to be replaced due to continued failures of supply adequate heat to the facility.Smart boards are needed to update the classrooms. Page 4 of 5 X.
