VIII. Action Plan
Please describe your plan for responding to the above data. Consider curriculum,
pedagogy/instructional, scheduling, and marketing strategies. Also, please reference any cross district
collaboration with the same discipline at other Peralta colleges.
Include overall plans/goals and specific action steps.
The Counseling Department is currently exploring a new process for orientation. Students should receive
information that propel their academic experience from the onset. The delivery of information students
receive during their initial exposure to BCC should be memorable and relevant to their needs. The
information should be delivered in an engaging and interactive style. Orientation should be mandatory
and well appreciated by students. Presentations will begin to administration, department chairs and key
faculty and staff starting October 24. (seeking Title III funds to launch)
FAQs are being developed and will be made available to students via power point or video. Counseling has
very limited human resources, therefore it is necessary to find alternative ways to provide our students
with the information they need. The video or power point will pay continuosly in the counseling
reception area. It is anticipated that many students will obtain the answer to their question(s) by viewing
the video or power point. (no cost)
E-Counseling will provide equitable services to students takin online courses. This is a work in progress and
will require resources such as staff and equipment to pilot the project.
Finally, the Counseling 221 Transfer class is an intensive course that outlines the specifcs of transferring
and discusses all ancillary programs that aide in this process such as the concurrent enrollment
programs and transfer admission guarantees. Consideration is being given to video tapin this class in
order to make such access availabe to a broad spectrum of students. (no cost)
