People currently working towards this expiring qualification may either complete the requirements for the qualification by 31 December 2018 or transfer their results to the replacement New Zealand qualification. New enrolments into programmes leading to this expiring qualification will not be accepted after 31 December 2015. It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. This qualification is designed to be flexible and allows temporary workers engaged in a range of occupations and functional areas within the wood manufacturing industries to select the outcomes most appropriate for their job role. Elective 1 addresses health, safety, and measurement skills required across the wood manufacturing industries. Elective 2 allows for the development of skills to meet regulatory requirements in the operation of equipment, and health and safety systems. The candidates can then choose more standards from the electives which are specific to their work requirements to meet the overall total of 44 credits. People who gain permanent employment in any of these industries and have completed the National Certificate in Wood Manufacturing - Generic Skills (Workplace Safety and Operations) (Level 2) [Ref: 1304], can continue on a career pathway to the National Certificate in Solid Wood Manufacturing (Level 2) with strands in Defecting; Finger Jointing and Laminating; Pole, Post and Pile; Saw Doctoring Principles; Sawmilling; Timber Drying and Treatment; and Timber Machining [Ref: 1690], which is the entry level pathway qualification for employees in the wood manufacturing industries.
