Purpose
This qualification recognises the attainment of health, safety, environmental, compliance,
and entry level operations skills and knowledge required by temporary workers in the wood
manufacturing industries.
This qualification is designed to be flexible and allows temporary workers engaged in a
range of occupations and functional areas within the wood manufacturing industries to
select the outcomes most appropriate for their job role. Elective 1 addresses health,
safety, and measurement skills required across the wood manufacturing industries.
Elective 2 allows for the development of skills to meet regulatory requirements in the
operation of equipment, and health and safety systems. The candidates can then choose
more standards from the electives which are specific to their work requirements to meet
the overall total of 44 credits.
People who gain permanent employment in any of these industries and have completed
the National Certificate in Wood Manufacturing - Generic Skills (Workplace Safety and
Operations) (Level 2) [Ref: 1304], can continue on a career pathway to the National
Certificate in Solid Wood Manufacturing (Level 2) with strands in Defecting; Finger Jointing
and Laminating; Pole, Post and Pile; Saw Doctoring Principles; Sawmilling; Timber Drying
and Treatment; and Timber Machining [Ref: 1690], which is the entry level pathway
qualification for employees in the wood manufacturing industries.

Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions
and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet
qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.
