This qualification has been reviewed. The last date to meet the requirements is 31
December 2018.
Transition Arrangements
This qualification has been reviewed and replaced by the New Zealand Certificate in Solid
Wood Manufacturing (Level 3) with strands in Finger Jointing; Pole, Post and Pile; Saw
Doctoring; Sawmilling; Timber Drying; Timber Grading and Optimising; Timber Machining;
and Timber Treatment [Ref: 1969].
People currently working towards this expiring qualification may either complete the
requirements for the qualification by 31 December 2018 or transfer their results to the
replacement New Zealand qualification.
People wishing to complete this qualification should note that there will be a more limited
choice of standards for some strand electives after 2015, due to the expiry of standards
145, 154, 4551, 20026, 20753, 20768, 21760, 21762, and 21764, at the end of December
2015.
People wishing to complete the qualification with the Engineered Wood Product
Operations Strand must complete the requirements of Elective 1 before standards 20768
and 21764 in this strand expire at the end of 2015.
New enrolments into programmes leading to this expiring qualification will not be accepted
after 31 December 2015.
It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition
arrangements. However, anyone who feels that they have been disadvantaged may
appeal to Competenz at the address below. Appeals will be considered on a case by case
basis.

Requirements for Award of Qualification
Award of NZQF National Qualifications
Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.
Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the
purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided on the New Zealand Qualifications
Authority (NZQA) website: http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/qualifications-standards/standards/standards-exclusionlist/.
Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions
and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet
qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.

There are substantial differences between the replaced and new qualifications.
People currently working towards the replaced qualifications may either complete the
requirements for the respective qualification by 31 December 2014 or transfer their results
to the equivalent strand in this qualification.
Those working towards the National Certificate in Saw Doctoring (Saw and Tool
Maintenance) (Level 3) [Ref: 0810] are advised to transfer to the Saw Doctoring
Operations strand in this qualification. The last date for entry to training programmes or
courses for the replaced qualifications is 31 December 2011.
Those working towards the Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) and Plywood Operations and
Veneer Preparation strands in [Ref: 1306] may either complete the requirements of that
qualification by 31 December 2014 or transfer their results to the National Certificate in
Wood Fibre Manufacturing (Wood Panels) (Level 3) with strands in Composite Panel
Preparation, Composite Panel Forming and Pressing, Composite Panel Finishing, Overlay
Bonding Operations, Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) and Plywood Operations, and
