People who have achieved this qualification have advanced knowledge of knitting mechanics, design and structure of knitted goods, control of knitting quality, and are able to investigate and solve complex mechanical and/or product problems. Entry to the qualification is open. However, skills are required that can only be developed by working in the knitting industry. People should not commence training towards this qualification until access to the necessary facilities and experience is available. This qualification builds on the skills and knowledge recognised by level 2 and 3 National Certificates in Industrial Machine Knitting [Refs: 0156, 0838-0840]. Special Notes Training and assessment in the technical skills will normally take place within a knitting workplace, complemented by correspondence assignments or block courses. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award.
