Purpose
The National Diploma in Industrial Machine Knitting (Level 5) recognises advanced skills
and knowledge that people have achieved in knitted goods manufacture. People who
have achieved this qualification have advanced knowledge of knitting mechanics, design
and structure of knitted goods, control of knitting quality, and are able to investigate and
solve complex mechanical and/or product problems.
Entry to the qualification is open. However, skills are required that can only be developed
by working in the knitting industry. People should not commence training towards this
qualification until access to the necessary facilities and experience is available.
This qualification builds on the skills and knowledge recognised by level 2 and 3 National
Certificates in Industrial Machine Knitting [Refs: 0156, 0838-0840].
Special Notes
Training and assessment in the technical skills will normally take place within a knitting
workplace, complemented by correspondence assignments or block courses.

Requirements for Award of Qualification
Award of NQF Qualifications
Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.
Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the
purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided in section 7 of the New Zealand
Qualifications Authority (NZQA) Rules and Procedures publications available at
http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/acrp/index.html.
Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions
and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet
qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.
