purpose
The National Diploma in Diving (Occupational) (Level 5) [Ref: 1008] recognises the
skills and knowledge needed to gain employment in Occupational Diving where
the application of analytical, industrial, and underwater skills are required. These
skills are used to safely carry out the procedures associated with underwater
construction, analysis, recovery and investigations in a team environment, and to
report on the results of these activities clearly and concisely.

Diving (Occupational) (Level 5)
The emphasis is on working safely within a dangerous underwater environment
and ensuring that the safety of other team members is paramount in activity
planning.
Graduates of this diploma will possess a broad understanding of diving
fundamentals and how they can be used in a construction and/or exploration
environment to the level required for employment. The qualification will provide a
base from which further industry linked qualifications can be added.
The National Diploma in Diving (Occupational) (Level 5) has been developed by
the Dive Industry Training Organisation, representatives from industry, providers
of occupational diving and the Royal New Zealand Navy.

2.1
entry information for programmes of education and training assessed
against the unit standards in the qualification
Open. However, it is recommended that science, mathematics, and English
or communications have been studied to at least level 2 (sixth form
certificate).
2.2
recognition of prior learning
This will be carried out by accredited providers or ITOs who will have
systems in place for determining that learners’ competence meets the
standards specified in the relevant unit standard.
2.3
summary of qualification requirements
This qualification will be awarded to people who meet the requirements of
the compulsory and elective sections.

Evaluation of documentation and visit by NZQA and representatives from the Dive
Industry Training Organisation. Further accreditation requirements depend on the
electives undertaken, and can be found on the unit standards concerned.

The certificate will display the logos of NZQA and of the accredited provider.

transition arrangements
5.1
non-National Qualifications Framework transition
There are no transitional arrangements pertaining to non-National
Qualifications Framework qualifications.
5.2
National Qualifications Framework transition
Any version of a unit standard contained within this qualification which
retains its original unit standard identification number will continue to meet
the requirements of this qualification.
