Cablemaking (Level 2) with strands in Wiredrawing, Conductor Assembly,

Extrusion, Cable Assembly, and Cable Testing (version 2)

purpose

The National Certificate in Cablemaking (Level 2) with specialist strands, is an introductory qualification to the cablemaking industry. The compulsory section is designed to recognise the mix of production specific and generic skills necessary to work in cable production. The qualification has specialist strands relating to cable production and cable testing. Holders of this certificate are able to undertake a range of production related activities under supervision in one of the specialist areas of cable production or cable testing.

This qualification is a prerequisite to the National Certificate in Cablemaking

(Level 3) [Ref: 0738], which includes the same specialist strands as this qualification. However, in the Level 3 qualification, people are required to broaden their industry knowledge and skills by selecting a different specialist strand to that chosen at Level 2. Both qualifications share a selection of unit standards in the Core Elective components, and elective credits can be used to meet the credit requirements of both qualifications.

People intending a career in the cablemaking industry may commence training towards the qualification by gaining credit for applicable unit standards other than those in the sub-field of Cablemaking prior to such employment. Certificate holders are encouraged to undertake further training towards the National

2.2 recognition of prior learning

People seeking recognition of prior learning for any unit standard will need to be assessed either by an accredited training provider, or accredited workplace assessor registered by Competenz.
