This unit standard is intended for people who are ringa wera for
a whare kai – those who, as and when needed, undertake a
range of activities in a whare kai in accordance with the
application of tikanga for that marae.
People credited with this unit standard are able to awhi and
manaaki manuhiri and whānau in a whare kai.

Explanatory notes
1
Performance of the elements of this unit standard must conform with the application
of tikanga for the marae in which assessment is undertaken. All performances must
accord with the practice of manaakitanga on the marae.

Evidence must be presented from within the context of a whare kai for either
organised and/or impromptu events or unexpected arrivals.
3
For the purposes of this unit standard, manuhiri is intended to reflect those people
being served in a whare kai, and whānau is intended to reflect those providing
service.

Evidence requirements
1.1
Manuhiri are greeted with warmth and caring.
1.2
Manuhiri are offered service as soon as a need arises and/or in accordance
with the sequence of events of activities at the time.
1.3
Manuhiri are directed to other people or places as appropriate to the need being
presented.

The comfort of manuhiri is attended to within the limits of authority that apply,
and the availability of resources. Any needs not able to be attended to directly
are referred to another of authority within the whare kai.

Awhi and manaaki whānau in a whare kai.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Assistance is given to others where own role and responsibilities are not unduly
compromised.
2.2
Communication with others and actions support the whanaungatanga of the
whare kai.
