Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to describe the equipment
used, sequence of operation, material handling, and safety requirements, for:
trenchless pipe installation; and pipe refurbishment or maintenance.
This unit standard is for people who work on water, or wastewater, or
stormwater reticulation systems, which collectively make up water reticulation
services.

Definition
Organisational procedures – instructions to staff, and procedures which are
documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace. These
requirements include but are not limited to – site specific requirements,
manufacturers’ specifications, product quality specifications, and legislative or
regulatory requirements.

Element 1
Describe the equipment used, sequence of operation, material handling, and safety
requirements, for trenchless pipe installation.
Range

Performance criteria
1.1
The equipment used in trenchless pipe installation is described in terms of its
purpose and alternative equipment.
1.2
Pipe installation using trenchless pipe technology is described in terms of the
sequence of tasks required to ensure pipe alignment.
1.3
Pipe types used in trenchless pipe installation are described in terms of their
suitability.
1.4
The safety requirements of trenchless pipe installation are described in terms of
organisational procedures, legislative requirements, and manufacturer’s
instructions.
Element 2
Describe the equipment used, sequence of operation, material handling, and safety
requirements for pipe refurbishment or maintenance.
Performance criteria
2.1
The equipment used in pipe refurbishment or maintenance is described in terms
of their purpose and alternatives.
Range
2.2
evidence is required for at least two types of pipes.
The sequence of tasks required to prepare for refurbishment or maintenance,
and refurbish or maintain pipes using pipe refurbishment or maintenance
technology, is described in terms of the pipe material.

are described in terms of the location of the trench and the pipe material, the
methods of refurbishment or maintenance, and manufacturer’s instructions.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.

standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
