This unit standard is for people training for a management
role in the travel industry. People credited with this unit
standard are able to: process accounting functions using a
computer; use a computerised system to monitor and
analyse staff performance in the travel industry; and use a
computerised system as a marketing tool.

to process travel requirements, or demonstrate equivalent
knowledge and skills.

Glossary of terms
The term ‘industry procedures’ refers to a procedure
used and recommended by an organisation involved in
the travel industry. Procedures may cover quality
assurance, documentation, security, communication,
health and safety, and personal behaviour, and may
include time and cost constraints.

Performance of all elements should comply with the
laws of New Zealand: an indicative list of those which
apply to the travel industry is available from the Aviation
Tourism and Travel Training Organisation.

Competency in this unit standard must be
demonstrated using a computerised reservation system
(CRS) which has a management function capability or
an accounting/management software package.
A
theoretical knowledge of this computerised system is
not sufficient to gain credit for competency in this unit
standard.

Clients’ files are monitored in accordance with travel industry procedures.
1.2
Goods and Services Tax returns are processed in accordance with travel
industry procedures and legislative requirements.
1.3
Audit trails are set up in accordance with travel industry procedures.
1.4
Invoices and vouchers are prepared in accordance with travel industry
procedures and suppliers’ requirements.
1.5
Bank Settlement Plan (BSP) reconciliation and commission tracking procedures
are completed in accordance with travel industry procedures.

Credit card transactions are recorded in accordance with travel industry
procedures.
