People credited with this unit standard are able to: describe New Zealand’s education structures; describe home and school interaction; and identify features of the New Zealand Qualifications Framework. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 This unit standard is Evidence requirements expiring Describe New Zealand’s education structures. 1.1 Stages of schooling and education are described in terms of the compulsory and non-compulsory sectors and include the usual ranges of the ages of people at each stage. Range 1.2 pre-school, primary, intermediate, secondary, tertiary. Early childhood, primary and secondary (state, integrated, and independent education) sectors, are described in terms of their clientele and expected outcomes. Range expected outcomes may include but are not limited to – qualifications, attendance, code of student conduct. Range 1.4 4246 version 5 Page 2 of 3 educational institutions may include – special education units and/or schools, tertiary, Kura Kaupapa Māori, private training establishments, home schooling; expected outcomes may include but are not limited to – qualifications, attendance, code of student conduct; evidence of two educational institutions is required. Governance support and administration structures are described for early childhood, primary, intermediate, secondary schooling, and tertiary education. Range may include but is not limited to – boards of trustees; principals; teaching, pastoral, and support staff; health services. Outcome 2 Describe home and school interaction. Range early childhood, primary, secondary. Evidence requirements 2.1 Communication procedures between home and school are described. Range 2.2 procedures include – two-way liaison between home and school, raising issues, explaining absences, asking for and granting permission. Parent and/or caregiver involvement in the school is described in terms of roles and expectations.
